Number of players: 2-7
Initial Deal: Two cards face down and
one card face up to each player.
The Play: After the hands are dealt, the
highest (showing) hand bets first. After each round of betting,
each player is dealt one additional card, face up. A total
of four face up cards are dealt to each player, and then
the last (or seventh) card is dealt face down. Betting follows
each deal. The highest visible hand in each round starts
the betting for that round.
Strategy: Your first three cards are the
most important. Bear the following points in mind:
- A hand that is weak to start will end as a weak hand
- A hidden strong pair with a high card showing will be
strong until the end
- After the fourth card, you need a high pair, a four-card
straight or flush, or a three card straight or flush to
stay in
- After the fifth card, you need as least a pair of queens
or a four-card straight or flush
- A four-card straight or flush is worth staying for the
sixth and seventh cards
- Fold if one of your opponents holds a higher-ranking
hand
- Fold if the odds of filling your hand are not worth
what the pot contains
Showdown: Each player makes his or her
best five-card hand from the seven he or she holds.
Determining winner: Highest five-card
hand, or high-low hands split (this is decided before the
start of the game). |
