The Dream of Bringing Online Casino Poker to the 2012 Olympics
InterPoker.com one of the web’s largest online poker rooms has launched a campaign to lobby for the Olympic sports games that will be held in 2012 in London England. InterPoker.com is very much so convinced that the huge internet poker craze in the last few years gives it a promising chance at getting some air time at the Olympics.
A spokesman for InterPoker has said: “There has been a massive surge in the popularity of Poker as it is one of the most highly skilled sports around. Also ESPN & Fox, as well as Sky Sports in Britain, have been showing Poker during their prime time sports shows for over two years with very high ratings. Given the very strong support for Poker and the UK Gaming Act coming into force by 2007, we believe that London would be the perfect venue for Poker to make its début as an Olympic Sport in 2012. For a sport to qualify as an Olympic event, it must be played in 75 countries across 4 continents. Poker goes well beyond that.”
Although a very unlikely scenario and wish full as InterPoker may be to see their online poker rooms running as main sponsors at the 2012 games it is highly unlikely that this will happen as at the end of the day the final decision will come from the International Olympic Committee which will likely reject the idea.
Best of luck to InterPoker which by the way is one of the leading online poker rooms on the web that offers a great selection of Texas Hold’em, tournaments and much more…
