| When playing casino blackjack you should never
take insurance unless you are counting cards. Remember that
a 52 deck had 16 tens and 36 non-tens for a ratio of 2.25
to 1. Insurance only pays 2 to 1 so you are getting the worst
of it on that basis alone. Overall, the house has a 5.9 percent
advantage over the player with the insurance bet. Even if
you have blackjack you will only win your original bet. You
want the bonus of a 3 to 2 payoff when you have a blackjack.
Don't take insurance and don't take "even money,"
even when you have that blackjack. Unless, as we said before,
you are a card counter and the True Count is plus
2 or higher. |
